Vivienda y Comunidades Sustentables is a scientific journal dedicated to the dissemination of original scientific and technological knowledge on housing and sustainable communities. It considers this relationship as a complex field of study whose understanding requires multidisciplinary approaches and multiple scales of analysis and intervention. The journal promotes research on housing as a fundamental human right, a strategic component of urban and territorial development, and a field for innovation that contributes to sustainability in its social, economic, environmental, and technological dimensions.

Vivienda y Comunidades Sustentables is also part of the editorial strategy of the National Laboratory for Housing and Sustainable Communities (SECIHTI), aimed at strengthening the generation and dissemination of scientific knowledge in this field.
